“Joining efforts to cope with the consequences of the current crisis”

The TatOilExpo gas and petrochemical exhibition is taking place at Kazan Expo on an area of more than 10,000 square metres. Producers and suppliers of gas and oil equipment, oil corporations and holding groups, oil and gas production enterprises and processing companies are among the exhibitors. The Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov participated in an official ceremony of the event opening. —   Our cooperation, exchange of opinions, groundwork at such events gives us confidence about the development of friendly contacts. I am convinced that the forum will become an effective instrument to establish new business relations, unite efforts to cope with the consequences of the current crisis, — he said.

The minister of energy and infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates was among the honoured guests. Suhail Mohammed Al Mazroui thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for the invitation.

— This proposal is valuable because I am familiarizing myself with new development technologies in this area. Year in year out our relationships are important and long-term, — he pointed out.

President of the Union of Oil & Gas Producers of Russia Genadiy Shmal noted the Tatarstan’s contribution to the development of the oil and gas sector.

— Each time we are in Kazan is a grand occasion for the entire oil and gas community. These moments are especially important now — amid the Western sanctions. We are solving problems of how to survive in the troubled circumstances. I shall say openly — we will survive. Our oil and gas complex operates stably, addresses the issues for the national economy and the export requirements, — he said with confidence.

More than 90% of light oil products recovery

After a welcoming speech, Rustam Minnikhanov and guests of the forum attended a specialised exhibition. This year 200 companies representing 25 Russian regions and 4 foreign countries are participating in it.

TAIF-NK JSC — the Russia’s leading oil refinery in regards to yield of light oil products from petroleum feed and to facilities processing complexity — traditionally put up its stand. The refinery includes Crude Oil Processing Plant, Gasoline Plant and Heavy Residue Conversion Complex. The petroleum feed capacity is 8.3 MTPA.

General Director of TAIF-NK JSC Maxim Novikov told the honoured guests about the activity of the Company in detail. According to him, TAIF-NK JSC is the only company in the world that processes heavy oil with production of more than 90% of light oil products.

— The main objective of TAIF-NK JSC is to expand the recovery of light oil products as much as possible. The annual average result achieved in the Company is more than 90%. In August, this indicator was 93.5%. This is the best indicator in the world. There aren’t such facilities anywhere, in principle, where heavy oil is processed and such an amount of light oil products is produced. This year, sulphur recovery has achieved 87%. All the sulphur containing in oil we receive for processing is recovered and purified up to grade of 99.99%. Then, it is made merchantable and is supplied to consumers, — Maxim Novikov noted.

LPG, straight-run naphtha, motor gasoline grades AI-92-K5, AI-95-K5, jet fuel grade RT, diesel fuel EURO-5, EURO-6, bitumen grades PMB and BND, granular sulphur of 99.99% purity are key products produced by the Company. The domestic market is a priority area in product sales. The share of the Russian market has grown by 32% since 2019. In the last seven months of 2022, product sales in the domestic market compared to export increased by 24% (36% in the export market, 62% in the domestic market).

According to General Director of TAIF-NK JSC Maxim Novikov, the Company is hard at work on import substitution of catalysts, reagents, additives and spare parts.

— We have succeeded in laboratory and pilot tests, and field trials. A cracking catalyst produced in Germany was replaced in the FCC Unit of Gasoline Plant. The imported coal additive is under replacement with the Russian one. We have adapted the process of search and procurement of Russian analogues of imported spare parts of equipment and its components. The most important thing is to find a reliable partner who, in a quality manner, can measure a part, manufacture it and support its integration to the existing units, — he said.

Increase in taxes and decrease in carbon footprint

TAIF-NK JSC is working systematically and efficiently on environmental improvement in the region. The Company focuses on implementation of such programs as Clean Air, Clean Water, the waste management integrated system and the introduction of standards and technical documentation.

The Company gradually reduces emissions into the atmosphere, including by maximum reusing of waste gases for the process or as a fuel. The reduction in total emissions over the past five years was 17%.

In addition, it fully switched to a closed-loop water-recycling system and minimized the consumption of river water by Crude Oil Processing Plant and Heavy Residue Conversion Complex. Due to the recycling, the saving of river water consumption is 10.5 million cubic metres, which is comparable with the size of Kaban Lake in Kazan.

— Increase in tax payments is another indicator of successful operation of TAIF-NK. In 2021, RUB 23.1 bln were paid to all levels of the budget, of which 4 bln were paid to the Tatarstan consolidated budget, which is three times more than in 2020. Tax payments to the Tatarstan consolidated budget are forecasted to increase by RUB 2 bln in 2022, — Maxim Novikov noted.

The Company plans to implement further the initiated and new projects oriented to improvement and upgrading of the existing facilities, introduction of ecologically friendly, resources- and energy saving technologies.
